Workshop on Storytelling for Young Learners

On Saturday, July 26, Professor Denise Ortenzi and I administered a workshop at UEL on Storytelling for young learners to 20 in-service teachers of early English language learning. We were also aided by student teachers Marcella Bordini and Ana Claudia Cury. We created materials such as posters, pictures and mobiles with key vocabulary to demonstrate ways in which teachers could enhance their classrooms and learning environment for the students.
Teachers spent the morning practicing the reading of stories and participating in various storytelling techniques that they could use in the classroom with their students, such as repetition, reading out loud, and re-telling the story through pictures. UEL also borrowed several children’s books from the library at Instituto Cultural to add more variety to the literary works available during the workshop, and also encourage teachers to use Cultural as a resource for their schools.
The workshop was a great success. Teachers were very enthusiastic and found the methods of teaching reading and stories innovative and interesting for their classrooms.
